History of the small boat descent

The descent by small boats from Chiny to Lacuisine is the work of Aloïs Mercatoris, a local sailor as well known as the old counts of Chiny. In 1868, barely fifteen years old and owning but a fisherman's small boat, he inaugurated this marvellous excursion.

The Cooperative Company of United Boatmen came to be on May 5, 1912 in Chiny with the purpose of bringing tourists down the Semois river in small boats.
